Guns seized from mayor’s residence
BATANGAS, Philippines – Police raided the house of the mayor of Mataas na Kahoy town in this province and seized firearms and ammunition yesterday morning.
Danilo Gonzales, employee of Mayor Jay Manalo Ilagan, was arrested after the raiding team seized from him a .45 caliber pistol.
Reports said agents of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group raided Ilagan's compound in Barangay Santol at around 11:30 a.m. and seized an AK47 rifle, a .45 caliber pistol, a .38 caliber revolver and bullets.
The raid was based on a warrant issued by Judge Agripino Morga of San Pablo Regional Trial Court.
Authorities said they received information that the mayor was keeping unlicensed firearms.
Provincial police director Senior Superintendent Arcadio Ronquillo said Ilagan was not around during the raid.
