3 dead in Quezon mishap

LUCENA CITY, Philippines – Three persons died while four others were injured when a bus rammed a tricycle in Guinayangan, Quezon province on Friday afternoon.

Julius Siaron, Jomar Ronan and Mary Joy Abordo were declared dead on arrival at the St. Peter General Hospital in nearby Calauag town.

Taken to the same hospital for treatment were Aileen Lasala, 16; Arnold Lasala, 17, and Jomel Ronan, 18.

Reports said the victims were in a tricycle when they were hit by a DLTB bus (AQA 6752) driven by Edwin Manalo in Barangay Bagong Silang at around 5 p.m.

Earlier in the day, a Raymond bus (UWE 595) hit a tricycle in Pagbilao, Quezon, killing two persons.

Tricycle passengers Benito Malveda Jr. and Raymundo Macabuhay died at the scene, while another man, whose name was not immediately available, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, in South Cotabato, a pedestrian died while five others were injured when a truck hit a pickup and a tricycle in Banga town on Friday.

Police have yet to identify the fatality and the injured victims.

Driver Alfie Tabion told investigators that his truck developed engine trouble, causing him to hit the two vehicles.

Responding police officers and barangay officials rushed the victims to a hospital in Koronadal City.

In Nueva Vizcaya, five persons were injured when a truck rolled over and hit a sport utility vehicle in Barangay Villaros, Bagabag town on Thursday.

Truck driver Allan Allapitan, 25, lost control of the wheel, causing the truck to roll over.

Members of a local rescue team rushed Allapitan; his helpers Romar Allapitan and Ronaldo Abadila, and SUV driver Errol Lopez and passenger Anthony Agulto to the Veterans Regional Hospital in Bayombong for treatment.
