Gunmen seize ex-DepEd exec, kin

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Armed men seized a former official of the Department of Education and her grandson in a coastal village in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay yesterday.

Isabel Agpaw Muyargas, former school division superintendent, and five-year-old Kyle Hamad were seized at gunpoint from their home in Barangay Bangkerohan, according to provincial police director Senior Superintendent Celso Bael.

Bael said two unidentified men armed with a M16 rifle and a handgun barged inside the house of the victims at about 11:30 a.m.

The suspects dragged the victims into a waiting pumpboat, which sped toward Barangay Magdaup.

Police pursued the gunmen.
