QC cops to undergo gun proficiency training

Dennis Carcamo - Philstar.com
MANILA, Philippines - Quezon City policemen will be getting a refresher training on their gun handling and shooting proficiency.

QC Police District (QCPD) director, Chief Superintendent Edgardo Tinio, said a Metro Manila gun club offered higher level of firearms familiarization and precision training for Quezon City policemen.

He said Alpha Gun Club member Art Cantolino personally presented the club’s training services as a way supporting and enhancing the skills and capabilities of the policemen by conducting the training for all QCPD uniformed personnel.

The training for the police officers is pro bono or free of charge, Tinio said.

Tinio said at least 40 QCPD Special Reaction Unit (formerly Special Weapons and Tactics) members have initially started with their physical training at the QCPD covered court on Monday before doing target and confidence shooting exercises at the firing range under Cantolino’s supervision.

Personnel from the District Headquarters in Camp Karingal and from 12 police stations shall also undergo the same training every Mondays of the month around 9 a.m., the QCPD chief said.

Two personnel from each office or police station shall be recommended to undergo the familiarization and precision training so that the normal police duties shall not be affected. They shall be firing a minimum of 30 rounds of ammunition at the end of the training as part of the practical exercise.

"Anchored with the learning and growth stage of the PNP's (Philippine National Police) Performance Governance System, this program which is in collaboration with our stakeholders is aimed at enhancing the level of competency and confidence of our personnel," Tinio said.
