TESDA grants scholarships for Davao youth

MANILA, Philippines - High school graduates from Davao del Norte who may not be able to pursue college education due to financial difficulties can avail themselves of scholarships from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority  (TESDA).

At least P10 million worth of scholarships will be made available for students from the Davao provinces who want to take up technical and vocational courses, said TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva.

“Students who are hard up on finances are not without choices to continue their education. There is the tech-voc option,” Villanueva said.

He said high school graduates could choose to study cooking and baking, electrical repair and information technology-related courses.    

Villanueva said Davao could become a tourism hub that may require more skilled workers in hotel and restaurant management.

He said there is a huge demand for construction industry-based skills, such as welding and electrical installation maintenance.
