Mild quakes rock Surigao

MANILA, Philippines - A series of mild earthquakes have been recorded in Surigao del Norte since Tuesday night, government seismologists reported yesterday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said there was no report of damage or injury from the tremors, which ranged from magnitude 3.1 to 5.

The latest quake was recorded at 5:53 a.m. yesterday, with a magnitude of 4.5.

Its epicenter was traced at 31 kilometers northeast of General Luna, Surigao del Norte, where it was reportedly felt at Intensity 2.

On Tuesday night, a magnitude-5 quake hit General Luna.

 It was felt in Burgos, Surigao del Norte and Loreto, Dinagat at Intensity 3 and in General Luna and Surigao City at Intensity 2.

Eight tremors were also recorded in General Luna. – With Ben Serrano
