Batangas village chief shot dead

BATANGAS, Philippines – A barangay chairman of this province was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in Lipa City yesterday morning, police said.

Onofre Maloles, 62, chairman of Barangay Sta. Teresita in Sto. Tomas town, was buying animal feed at a store along Gen. Luna Avenue in Barangay Sabang when the gunman shot him with a caliber .45 pistol at around 7:20 a.m., said Inspector Hazel Luma-ang, Lipa City police public information officer.

Maloles died at the scene due to injuries in the head and body.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
