Batangas councilor gunned down

BATANGAS, Philippines – A 54-year-old councilor of Balete town this province was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding men while buying in a store in Lipa City yesterday morning, police said.

Police said Rodante Encallado, a last-term councilor, had just stepped out of his Isuzu Alterra to buy motorcycle tires from a store in Barangay Maraouy when the two men approached him from behind and shot him in the head.

Encallado died on the spot from a single bullet wound from a .45-caliber pistol. His assailants fled toward Malvar town.
