Taguig adds 97 new cops

Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Taguig City government yesterday assured residents of better police visibility with the addition of 97 new police officers to the city's police force.

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano said the arrival of the additional
police officers would reinforce the city's commitment to promote peace and order.

Cayetano said the new police officers would be immediately deployed to the 28 barangays of the city.

“With this improvement in our security force, our constituents and even the city’s stakeholders will feel more confident, safer, and secure inside or outside their premises,” she said.

Meanwhile, Taguig City Police chief, Senior Superintendent Arthur Felix Asis said the additional policemen would help address the low police-population ratio in the city which now stands at 1:2,700.

Asis said the ideal ratio is one police officer to 500 residents.

“We recognize the problem of the insufficient manpower in our security force. Working together with the local government, we are maximizing the resources available to ensure that our constituents will feel safe and secure,” Asis said.

“With the additional personnel, we will prioritize the distribution to those barangays with less police force,” he added.

Cayetano alao said the deployment of the additional police officers would create a good impact on the city's security.

"These men and women in uniform will make a good impact in the city’s security force and will give the barangays a chance to maximize their workforce and efforts for safety,"
she said.

“Our goal is to be a premier city. To accomplish it, we should improve our security force in all aspects,” she added.
