Ed Amoroso - The Philippine Star

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines - – A former village chief was gunned down by a lone assassin while visiting a friend in San Pascual town in Batangas yesterday morning, police said.

The victim, Antonio Tabares, a meat trader and former chairman of Barangay Poblacion in San Pascual, died from two gunshot wounds in the head and body, said Senior Inspector Manuel Maligaya, San Pascual police chief.

Tabares was returning to his Toyota Corolla parked in front of his friend’s house to get his cigarettes when he was shot with a .45-caliber pistol. The gunman fled in a gray CRV.

Maligaya said a special investigation team was formed to handle the case.
