NDRRMC: Yolanda death toll hits 5,670
MANILA, Philippines - The death toll from supertyphoon Yolanda continues to rise as more bodies have been retrieved from the ruins in eastern Visayas provinces, the National Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Monday.
In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said the official tally of deaths is now 5,670 while the number of injured is 26,233. A total of 1,761 persons are still missing.
The NDRRMC also reported that 11.2 million individuals have been affected by the powerful storm in 44 provinces, 588 municipalities and 57 cities of regions 4-A, 4-B, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 and Caraga.
Of the total number affected, over 204,000 have been temporarily sheltered in 1,031 evacuation centers, the NDRRMC added.
Meanwhile, the state disaster response agency said that total cost of damage to agriculture and infrastructures in the affected areas is now at P34.3 billion.
The national government, local government units, and private institutions have poured in more than P844.7-million worth of relief assistance to the affected families, the NDRRMC said.
