4 airports in Visayas to remain closed until Monday

MANILA, Philippines - Four airports in Visayas will remain closed until the weekend and Monday after the regions was devastated by Super Typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan) on Friday.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines announced through its Twitter account that Caticlan and Roxas airports will remain closed on Saturday (November 9).

It added that the Tacloban City Airport will be closed until Sunday (November 10) and Kalibo Airport until Monday (November 11).

CAAP said the four airports suffered severe damage from the wrath of the super typhoon.

The super typhoon hit land over Guiuan, Eastern Samar at 4:40 a.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 235 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 275 kph. It barreled through Visayas regions and exited land through northern Palawan.

As of 9:30 p.m., the super typhoon was over Busuanga, Palawan. It was forecast to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday morning.

Three persons have been confirmed killed and nearly 800,000 people were brought to evacuation centers.
