Comelec suspends barangay elections in quake-hit Bohol
MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has postponed the barangay polls in Bohol as the province reels from last week's devastating earthquake that killed 186 people and affected more than three million others in Central Visayas.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez made the announcement in his Twitter account on Monday, nearly a week after the magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck Sagbayan, Bohol.

The poll body has been considering the suspension of the barangay elections in Bohol where at least 41 public schools have been damaged by the major quake while aftershocks continue to hit the province.
Bohol was the province most ravaged by the powerful earthquake after more than a million residents were affected including over a hundred thousand people sheltered inside evacuation centers.
Of the 186 reported fatalities, 173 people are also from Bohol.
Meantime, the barangay elections set on October 28 are expected to push through in other parts of the country.
The election day has been declared as a special non-working holiday.
