'Amihan' to bring rains in Metro Manila, Luzon

Louis Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Parts of Luzon including Metro Manila may expect some rains due to the northeast monsoon or "Amihan" affecting the country, the state weather bureau said Monday.

In its weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Metro Manila and the regions of Ilocos, Cordillera, Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains.

The rest of Luzon and Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewehere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to northwest with slight to moderate seas.

The start of the Amihan season, which is usually associated with Christmas due to the cooler temperature, was officially declared on Oct. 17.

According to PAGASA, colder early morning temperatures in the coming days and months are likely to be felt over Luzon, with chances of light rains especially over the northern and eastern sections.
