5 missing fishermen found off Vietnam

- Evelyn Macairan -

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Coast Guard yesterday said that the five Filipino fishermen who went missing in Zambales on Jan. 30, have been safely found in Vietnam.

PCG spokesman Lieutenant Commander Armand Balilo said the five fishermen identified as Regino Suico, Naptalie Surbano, Remy Joy Jiray, Alfredo Mangubat and Diego Abano were safely rescued by the National Search and Rescue Commission of Vietnam.

They were reportedly rescued by a passing Vietnamese fishing vessel PY90441 some 300 nautical miles off the waters of central Binh Dinh province.

The PCG learned that the Vietnam News Agency reported that the five Filipinos were provided with first aid by the Vietnamese fishing boat and were later brought to the nearest shoreline.

They are currently billeted in a hotel in Tuy Hoa City, the capital of central Phu Yen province.

The PCG expressed its gratitude to their Vietnamese counterparts for the humanitarian aid given to the said fishermen.
