Lawmaker refiles bill splitting Quezon into 2 districts
LUCENA CITY, Philippines – Quezon fourth district Rep. Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada III refiled recently at the House of Representatives his bill, RA 9495 splitting Quezon into two provinces.
Tañada reiterated that the province needs to be divided for better management and faster development.
The bill is supported by Quezon third district Rep. Danilo Suarez, who said that his son, Gov. David Suarez, cannot personally attend to all the problems of the province because of the wide scope of his responsibility.
First district Rep. Mark Enverga and second district Rep. Irvin Alcala, meantime, do not support Tañada’s bill.
But Tañada vowed to do his best to convince his constituents to back the proposed legislation.
RA 9495 failed to become a law in 2007 and even lost in a plebiscite on December 2008.
The Commission on Elections allotted P50 million for the plebiscite.
The Department of Budget and Management issued a “Special Allotment Release Order” amounting to P38 million to the Comelec to fund the holding of the plebiscite.
