DAVAO CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has imposed a total gun ban in Davao del Sur where no provincial winners have been proclaimed yet almost two weeks after the May 14 polls.

Chief Superintendent Andres Caro II, Southern Mindanao police director, said the Comelec move was in response to the brewing trouble in the province arising from the delay in the proclamation of winning candidates as the canvassing results from four towns are still under protest.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who chairs the Regional Peace and Order Council, earlier pushed for the total gun ban after the May 16 killing of Malita mayoral bet Isidro Sarmiento and his son Danilo.
