Bombo Radyo reporter’s house in North Cotabato town fired at

- John Unson -
MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato — Unidentified men fired at the house here of a reporter of Bombo Radyo with automatic weapons the other night, an attack which police believe could be related to his job as a broadcast journalist.

Gary Fuerzas, a reporter for Central Mindanao of Bombo Radyo in Davao City, and members of his family survived the shooting unharmed.

Investigators said Fuerzas’ neighbors saw the gunmen alight from a maroon Toyota Tamaraw in front of his house, open fire with pistols and M-16 assault rifles, and immediately flee.

"Until now I cannot comprehend why someone would do that to me and my family. I have been very prudent and balanced in practicing my profession as a broadcast journalist," Fuerzas said.

Maj. Gen. Raul Relano, commander of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said he has tasked his intelligence agents to help the Midsayap police investigate the attack.

In a statement, Presidential Assistant for Mindanao Jesus Dureza condemned the strafing and urged the Region 12 police to probe the incident extensively and prosecute those behind it.
