Camacho backed by IBP, teachers

Two of the country’s biggest organizations, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) and the Philippine Public School Teachers Association (PPSTA), have given their full support to Finance Secretary Jose Isidro "Lito" Camacho in his bid to get confirmed by the Commission on Appointments.

Lawyer Teofilo Pilando Jr., chairman of the board of governors of the IBP which has over 40,000 lawyer-members, said Camacho’s "expertise and vast experience in finance, banking and the economy in general speak well of his qualifications and capability in policy formulation and project implementation that bear on reforms needed by the country."

On the other hand, Ramon Asuncion Jr., director, general manager and corporate secretary of the PPSTA, said in his letter to the CA that "the welfare of not only the members and the millions of students the public school teachers serve, but also the entire country, depends on the appointment of competent people to manage the various departments of the government."

The 270,000-strong PPSTA, he said, is convinced that Camacho is "highly qualified to head the finance department during these difficult times."
