NPA warns Isabela execs over GMOs

ILAGAN, Isabela — The New People’s Army (NPA) warned provincial and local officials agreeing to ongoing field trials of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) here that they face "harsh judgment" from the revolutionary movement.

In a statement, the NPA said it would sabotage the field trials by abducting executives of Monsanto Corp., the major proponent of the propagation of GMO crops in the country.

Monsanto has proposed 11 field trial sites in Isabela, but the National Committee on Biosafety in the Philippines has so far approved only three sites for the genetically engineered Bt corn variety. — Charlie Lagasca
