People Power Coalition senatorial bet Solita "Mareng Winnie" Monsod couldn’t agree more with a suggestion contained in a letter by a supporter who reminded her of the importance of barangay officials in the coming elections and development of the country.
Monsod revealed that she supports the stand of letter sender Emma Egay of Cainta, Rizal, who asked her to "pay attention to barangay captains, kagawads and their personnel – they bring the campaign to the grassroots level. Give them the opportunity to be heard and their concerns be addressed promptly."
"Barangay officials have direct contact with the masses in the grassroots. Through them people express concerns and problems and they bring these to national attention," Monsod said.
"Concerns of barangay officials must be reciprocated so that services will reach people in need," Monsod added and she backs proposed legislation to give them retirement allowances when they retire.
Monsod has been advocating for the equal distribution of services education, health and housing for the masses. She lauded public servants in the barangays who deliver these services to the grassroots.
"Public servants are placed there to help those in need rather than enriching themselves through graft and corruption," Monsod added.
