Kamuning Bakery destroyed in fire
MANILA, Philippines — The historic Kamuning Bakery Café in Quezon City was razed by a fire before dawn yesterday.
The 79-year-old bakery on Judge Jimenez street in Barangay Kamuning caught fire less than a day after its neighboring establishment, a bar, was razed to the ground on Monday.
Officials said the embers from the fire from the other establishment could have rekindled and started another fire at the second-floor stockroom of the bakery at around 1:52 a.m.
The fire reached the first alarm before it was put out at around 2:43 a.m.
A worker sustained minor injuries but officials said all of the employees were safe and accounted for.
STAR columnist Wilson Lee Flores, owner of the bakery, expressed sadness over incident that saw the pre-war bakery business he revived razed to the ground.
“I’m thinking how to still continue this old business which I had bought, revived and have come to love so much. How to find ways to rebuild,” he said in a text message.
The bakery was famous for its pugon-baked goods, including its pandesal, and as a host to the Pandesal forum.
