Feeling ill? Don’t ride MRT-3

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Commuters should avoid riding public transportation if they are feeling sick, especially if they are traveling alone, the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) said yesterday.

The MRT-3 issued the advisory after 26-year-old Marielle Ann Mar died in a hospital in Mandaluyong City a few hours after she collapsed in a train heading towards the Ortigas station Monday morning.

The rail line said commuters should not hesitate to inform security personnel of their condition,.

Last month, the right arm of Angeline Fernando, 24, was severed after she felt dizzy and fell into a train’s coupler at the Ayala station. Surgeons successfully reattached her arm.

Since then, the MRT-3 said it has provided additional train personnel to assist commuters with special needs.

Yesterday, a woman had her foot fall into the gap between the train and the platform after she tried to force her way into a train that was about to leave the Shaw Boulevard station at around 10 a.m. She was unhurt.
