MANILA, Philippines — An 83-year-old Filipino-Chinese man shot dead his son in Quezon City yesterday morning after the victim allegedly refused to give him money for gambling in casinos.

Antonio Sy, a businessman, was reportedly not content with the monthly allowance his son, John, 50, gave him, according to John’s wife.

Antonio visited his son’s house, which was only a few blocks from his own, along Dampol street in Barangay Damar Village on Wednesday. He brought a gun as he demanded more money from John, also a businessman, the victim’s wife said.

At around 7 a.m. yesterday, Antonio paid his son a visit to demand money again, investigators said.

As John was about to board his Mitsubishi Pajero, Antonio pulled out his firearm and shot his son twice in the chest.

Village security guards rushed John to the Chinese General Hospital but he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Barangay authorities arrested Antonio, who faces a charge of parricide, and seized his firearm, a .45 caliber Glock 30 pistol. Police officers said the gun was licensed and Antonio has a permit to carry it outside his residence.
