Missing UP student returns home

MANILA, Philippines – A freshman student of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City who has been missing since last month returned home on Monday night.

UP Diliman Chancellor Michael Tan confirmed in a text message to The STAR that freshman engineering student Ian Jasper Calalang has returned to their home in Cainta, Rizal.

“UP is relieved he returned home safely,” said Tan.

No details of what happened to the student were released.

The Philippine Collegian, the university’s student publication, said the Calalang family has assured informed the police of his return.

Calalang went missing on Jan. 12 as he was about to enroll for his second semester at the university.

UP earlier said it has mobilized its security units to look for the student, while his family sought help from the police to look for him.
