Robber dead, cop hurt in shootout

MANILA, Philippines - An alleged robber died while a police officer was wounded in what police said was a shootout in Tondo, Manila early yesterday morning.

Larry dela Torre, a member of the Sigue-Sigue Sputnik gang, was declared dead on arrival at the Tondo General Hospital, Superintendent Redento Ulsano, Manila Police District Station 1 commander, said.

Ulsano said Police Officer 2 Rosebert Baldago suffered a gunshot wound in his right leg.

Prior to the shootout, Ulsano said Raymund Alojado, a crew of Andok’s branch on Juna Luna street, Barangay 151, reported to police that three men robbed the store at around 4:30 a.m. on Monday.
