Quezon City crime rate drops

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The crime rate in Quezon City has significantly dropped by 8,501 or 31 percent from the recorded 27,554 cases in January to November 2014 to 19,053 during the same period this year, an official of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) revealed yesterday.

Superintendent Dennis de Leon, chief of the QCPD’s Investigation and Detection Management, attributed the drop to the city police’s intensified anti-crime campaign.

The number of “cleared” cases – those in which suspects were identified and charged but remain at large – decreased by 4,733 or 32 percent from 14, 866 last year to 10,133 this year.

There was a slight drop in “resolved” cases – those in which suspects were identified, arrested and charged – from 7,974 in 2014 to 7,943 resolved cases this year.

In a press conference yesterday morning, QCPD director Chief Superintendent Edgardo Tinio said 5,400 persons were arrested this year and 710 kilos of shabu and marijuana, with an estimated street value of P276 million, were confiscated.
