MANILA, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the operators of 15 malls along EDSA yesterday adjusted mall operating hours during the holidays in order to minimize traffic congestion.

MMDA Chairman Emerson Carlos and the 15 mall operators signed a manifesto of support setting operating hours from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. from Dec. 1 to Jan. 3, 2016.

“This has been a yearly practice for us to sign this agreement in order to ease vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the holiday season,” Carlos said as he lauded mall operators for cooperating.

Under the same manifesto, mall owners will coordinate with the MMDA during special events like promotions, earthquake drills and sales.

One of the mall operators said that for events like concerts and the perennial New Year’s Countdown, the malls will operate past 11 p.m.
