1 dead, 1 hurt as motorbike hits van

MANILA, Philippines - A 25-year-old factory worker died while his passenger was severely injured when the motorcycle he was driving slammed into an illegally parked van in Valenzuela City before dawn Wednesday.

Frankie Española and Marvin Escuadra were cruising along NPC Road in Barangay Ugong on their way to Disiplina Village when they hit the van of Pier Macaraeg at around 2:40 a.m.

The victims were thrown from the motorcycle.

Rescue personnel rushed the victims to the Valenzuela Medical Center but Española died while being treated.

Macaraeg, who was not aware of the accident, was charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
