Jeepney runs over sleeping boy

MANILA, Philippines -  A nine-year-old boy who was sleeping under a parked jeepney died after he was run over when the driver started the vehicle in Navotas City yesterday.

John Mark Villaruya, of North Bay Boulevard North, died at the Tondo General Hospital while being treated. The driver, still unnamed as of press time, surrendered to the police.

The victim and several other boys were sleeping underneath the parked vehicle along Lapu-Lapu street at around 3:30 a.m. when the driver started the engine.

The screams of people around him alerted the driver that something was amiss, police said.
