Market vendors’ group head slain

MANILA, Philippines - The 65-year-old president of a market vendors’ group in Blumentritt, Manila was murdered while she was sleeping in her house in Tondo Friday night.

Belinda Bautista was asleep beside her granddaughter when an unidentified assailant broke in at around 8 p.m. and shot her repeatedly.

The Manila Police District remains clueless on the motive for her killing, but investigators said robbery was unlikely because Bautista’s belongings remained intact.
