Boy, 16, sneaks shabu into Bilibid

MANILA, Philippines - A 16-year-old boy visiting his stepfather, an inmate at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), was caught smuggling methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu into the state penitentiary earlier this week, an official said yesterday.

The boy and his mother were being inspected at the NBP’s Gate 9 when a prison guard found a sachet said to contain 25 grams of shabu on the boy’s person, NBP superintendent Robert Rabo told The STAR.

Rabo said the boy’s mother was arrested and taken to the Muntinlupa police while the boy was turned over to the Barangay Poblacion social service office.

He said they are investigating whether the boy’s mother conspired with his stepfather, Salvador Balines, an inmate at the prison’s medium-security compound, in attempting to smuggle shabu into the facility.
