Cop lauds conviction of 3 Chinese for Parañaque shabu lab

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A Philippine National Police (PNP) official cited yesterday the recent conviction of three Chinese for operating a shabu laboratory in Parañaque City.

Senior Superintendent Eduardo Acierto Jr. lauded his team for the arrest of Chu Kin Ting, Wong Meng Pin and Li Aging during a raid on a house along Concha Cruz Drive in BF Homes Subdivision in January 2010.

Last week, Parañaque Regional Trial Court Judge Danilo Suarez meted two life terms on the three Chinese and ordered them to pay a fine of P10 million each.

“I would like to commend my colleagues who worked so hard to build a case against the accused.  We did the right thing,” said Acierto, who was then the executive officer of the PNP’s Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (AIDSOTF).

He said the Chinese tried to mask the smell of chemicals using a disinfectant spray and burning incense. The raid was staged following nine days of surveillance, Acierto said.

According to case records, two more linked to the shabu lab operation, Robin Bayubay Co and Xiu Xiu, remain at large.

Acierto was also the leader of the AIDSOTF team that shut down a P900-million shabu flea market in Pasig City in 2006 and arrested 150 persons. Its operators, Imam Amin Boratong and his wife, Sheryl Molera, were meted life sentences.

The United States Drug Enforcement Agency commended him and his team for the raid, Acierto said.
