CIDG clamps down on detainees after Deniece ‘suicide’

MANILA, Philippines - The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) started implementing stricter measures for detainees yesterday, a day after detained model Deniece Cornejo slashed her wrist in an alleged suicide try. 

CIDG spokesperson Chief Inspector Elizabeth Jasmin said custodians will be stricter in implementing rules and regulations inside the jail premises, including on things being brought for the inmates.

“We have to be strict for the safety of our inmates. We have to ensure inmates will not find anything to hurt themselves or their fellow detainees while under our custody,” she said.

Jasmin said inspection would be done at least three times a day from the regular twice a day or morning and afternoon inspection.

At the same time, Jasmin said the CIDG leadership instructed duty personnel and inmates to ensure cleanliness of the facilities.

Cornejo is locked up at one of the detention facilities in CIDG with at least 10 other female inmates. She allegedly slashed her wrist using a metal bottle cap before dawn Sunday following the dismissal of the rape charges she filed against comedian Vhong Navarro last January.

She claimed Navarro raped her in her condominium unit on Jan. 17 and 22. The cases she filed for the two incidents have been dismissed.

Cornejo is being tried for the serious illegal detention and grave coercion charges filed by Navarro against her, businessman Cedric Lee and several others for the beating he received on Jan. 22. Lee and the others admitted to beating up Navarro, claiming they saw him raping the model.
