Consumers warned vs ‘Power Drops’

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned the public yesterday against using an unregistered product called “Power Drops” due to possible health risks.

In an advisory, the FDA said distributors of Power Drops have been making false claims that the product can treat “cataract, glaucoma, red eyes, teary eyes, pterygium, myopia, presbyopia, nasal polyps, runny nose (sipon), ear infection (luga), oral thrush (singaw), toothache, tooth decay.”

However, the label on the product states that its manufacturer, Living Power International Corp., makes “no therapeutic claim” despite it being classified as a drug, the FDA said.

Living Power is licensed by the FDA only as a “food distributor, importer, exporter or wholesaler” and not as a drug distributor.

To avoid possible health risks, the FDA advised the public to use only FDA-registered health products.
