Parañaque enforces own truck ban

Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The city government of Parañaque has started implementing its own truck ban hours on selected roads.

According to city administrator Fernando Soriano, the implementation of the truck ban was based on several ordinances passed during previous administrations.

The ordinances were authored by former councilor Generoso Puzon and were made into law during the administration of then mayor Joey Marquez.

Soriano said the implementation of the truck ban is going smoothly as no complaints were raised against it by the truckers and stakeholders.

“We talked with the stakeholders during the proceedings and they did not object since the implementation of truck ban is only limited,” he said, adding that they implemented the truck ban to decongest traffic along Doña Soledad Avenue in Barangay Don Bosco.

The city’s Traffic Management Office (TMO) has put up billboards in strategic areas along the affected roads announcing the strict enforcement of the truck ban starting Feb. 1.

TMO Chief Teodorico Barandino said the amended ordinance also puts in place a 24-hour truck ban along Doña Soledad Extension in Barangay Moonwalk as the bridge cannot handle the heavy load.

A truck ban from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. has also been imposed along some small streets in Barangays Don Bosco, San Antonio and Moonwalk.

Trucks, buses, tankers, trailers and similar vehicles are prohibited on the streets of Sta. Magdalena, Qurino, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo in San Antonio; Dominic Savio, Iran, Michael Rua, France, in Don Bosco and all the streets in Barangay Moonwalk, the city government said.
