Tanod shoots birthday celebrant

MANILA, Philippines - A man who was walking home after celebrating his 32nd birthday was shot by a barangay watchman in Malabon City yesterday morning.

Ariston Baluyot, who was drunk, was walking along M.H. del Pilar street when he was accosted by tanod Willy Marayag, according to a police report.

The two had an altercation, and Marayag shot Baluyot, the report said.

The victim was able to run and hide in his house. Baluyot was taken to the Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon but doctors advised his wife to transfer him to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

Marayag fled after the shooting and is now the subject of a police manhunt.
