Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A jail officer of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) was killed after being shot by two men riding-in-tandem at the corner of Felix Huertas and Malabon streets in Tayuman, Manila yesterday.

The fatality was identified as Jail Officer 4 Benjamin Signay, 43, assigned at the Manila City Jail.

Investigation conducted by Senior Police Officer 1 Jay Santos of the Manila Police District (MPD) homicide section showed that Signay was on his motorcycle on his way to the Manila City Jail at about 8 a.m. when he was shot by the suspects with a caliber .22 pistol.

Police Officer 3 Amelito Lopez said the assailants’ gun could have been armed with a silencer because no one in the area heard any shot.

Police investigators have yet to establish the suspects’ identity and their motive for the killing.
