Gov't to inaugurate Quezon Avenue underpass
MANILA, Philippines - The government is set to inaugurate next week a Quezon Avenue underpass that crosses Araneta Avenue in Quezon City.
President Aquino is set to lead the inauguration, officials of the city government said.
The construction of the P430-million underpass took more than a year to finish. The government started constructing the underpass in June 2011.
The Department of Public Works and Highways has said the underpass is expected to help decongest traffic along Edsa and other major thoroughfares.
Retired police general Elmo San Diego, head of the Quezon City government’s department of public order and safety, said the underpass will ease traffic congestion from Quezon City to Manila and vice versa.
“If you’re coming from A. Bonifacio Avenue from North Luzon Expressway, you could now pass by Araneta Avenue smoothly,” San Diego said.
According to San Diego, this decongestion will greatly benefit truck drivers plying that route – motorists could use Araneta Avenue to go to San Juan. They could avoid a great portion of Edsa in going to the southern portion of the metropolis, he said.
