- Pete Laude - The Philippine Star

Manila, Philippines - A Camp Crame policeman shot and seriously wounded one of two suspected robbers who held up a passenger jeepney in Caloocan City on Friday night.

Chief Inspector Rodrigo Soriano, Caloocan City police investigation chief, said that Jamai Tuano, 18, a resident of Bagong Silang, also in Caloocan, remains confined at the Dr. Jose Rodriguez Hospital due to a bullet wound in the body.

Tuano’s alleged cohort, Manguda Ali, escaped.

Police Officer 1 Julius Rabino, assigned at the police Fire Arms Identification Division in Camp Crame, was one of the passengers of a jeepney driven by Rodelito Tesorero, 52, when the two suspects declared a heist while they were traversing a dimly lit portion of a road in Barangay 176 at 6:45 p.m.

Armed with knives, the suspects divested the passengers of their belongings.

The brave Rabino pulled his handgun and shot Tuano once in the body. Ali escaped by jumping off the vehicle.

Tuano yielded a knife, a cell phone and wallet of Sarah Mariano, and other valuables of the victims.

Rabino took the suspect to the hospital for the treatment of his wound.

Caloocan police chief Senior Superintendent Jude Santos ordered his men to hunt down Tuano’s cohort and file charges against them.
