Rallyists, cops clash; 2 injured

MANILA, Philippines - Two persons were injured when members of the Manila Police District (MPD) clashed with militant groups protesting the upcoming US Balikatan Exercises near the United States embassy yesterday.

The MPD District Tactical Operations Center, however, denied they violently dispersed the rallyists.

Charisse Bañez, national secretary-general of Anakbayan, identified the injured as Gerson de Jesus and Luke Bagangan. The two sustained minor injuries.

Policemen shoved the rallyists as they tried to get near the US embassy.
