Comelec employees to stage strike
MANILA, Philippines - Employees of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will hold today a nationwide protest to demand an increase in their salary rates, which they said is not at par with those in other government agencies.
Mac Ramirez, convenor of the Comelec Wage Fight Alliance, said a Comelec Clerk 1 post is given a Salary Grade Level 3, or P9,628 monthly while those with similar positions in other agencies are given SG 7 or P12,880.
Members of the alliance met yesterday with Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes, who said the salary adjustments of the poll body’s workers are included in the Comelec Strategic Plan 2011-2016 being pursued by the agency under the Aquino administration.
