2 armed men nabbed in Caloocan robbery
MANILA, Philippines - Two armed men were arrested while reportedly robbing a passenger jeepney Tuesday night in Caloocan City.
Chief Inspector Rodrigo Soriano, Caloocan City police station investigation and detective branch chief, said that Ryan Diaz, 31, and Carlo Condino, 21, both residents of 9th Avenue in the city, yielded a caliber .22 Magnum revolver and a knife, respectively.
The police seized from the duo their victims’ belongings including the wallet of Alvin Guerrero and the mobile phone of Pia Carmela Patron.
A five-man police patrol unit, led by PO3 Eduardo Ronquillo and PO3 Harry Laxamana, was on patrol along Rizal Avenue Extension when they noticed a commotion inside a passing passenger jeepney as they neared the corner of 9th Avenue West at around midnight. The cops chased the passenger jeepney prompting the suspects to jump off the vehicle but they were immediately cornered and overpowered by the police officers.
The cops recovered from Diaz a .22 caliber revolver with bullets while Condino yielded a double bladed knife they used in robbing the victims.
The victims’ valuables were also recovered.
Northern Police District director Senior Superintendent Edgardo Ladao directed last week his four police chiefs in Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela (Camanava) to double their visibility patrol to prevent the expected rise of criminality in Camanava, especially because Christmas season is fast approaching. – With Perseus Echeminada
