Grenade lobbed at Congress employee's house
MANILA, Philippines - A car owned by an employee of the House of Representatives was damaged after a grenade was lobbed at his house early yesterday.
The roof of Rolito Cabansag’s Toyota XL parked in the garage was damaged in the blast that happened at past 2 a.m. yesterday outside his house on Filinvest Road in Barangay Batasan Hills, said Superintendent Crisostomo Mendoza, commander of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 6. No one was hurt in the explosion.
Inspector Arnulfo Franco, head of the QCPD’s Explosives and Ordnance Division, said an MK2 fragmentation hand grenade caused the explosion.
Mendoza said his brother had just parked Cabansag’s car when an owner-type jeep, with two occupants, passed by. One of the occupants then lobbed the grenade.
Mendoza said the jeep was reportedly seen parked on the road just before the attack. He said they will trace the jeep’s owner with the Land Transportation Office.
Mendoza said the attack may have been aimed at Cabansag, a staff member of the House committee on appropriations.
