Q7 UP students stage anti-gov't protest

-

Seven students of the University of the Phillipines were rounded up yesterday morning after staging a protest rally at a program attended by President Arroyo.

However, no charges were filed against the seven students, according to Police Officer 1 Rustico Reyes, a desk officer at the Quezon City Police District-Station 9.

“They (students) were just brought in for verification,” Reyes said in an interview. At a few minutes past noon, the students were eventually turned over to the UP-Diliman Police.

The UP-Diliman Police said the students had been released.

According to Reyes, the students held a protest rally at the inauguration of the UP-Ayala Land Techno Hub along Commonwealth Avenue at around 11:30 a.m.

Reyes said the protest rally caused a stir at the program that was attended by Mrs. Arroyo.

He said members of the Presidential Security Group and security guards at the site brought the students to the police station. – Reinir Padua
