Man steals motorbike, asks P10,000 for its return

- Reinir Padua -

A man was arrested for allegedly stealing his neighbor’s motorcycle, then demanding that the neighbor pay P10,000 to get it back.

Ronnie Lazar, 29, was arrested during an entrapment in Barangay Culiat, Quezon City Friday night after the motorcycle’s owner, Carlos Magdaraub, 45, sought assistance from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

Magdaraub and Lazar are neighbors in Barangay Botocan, where the suspect is said to be member of a small gang, according to QCPD anti-carjacking Chief Inspector Angelo Nicolas.

He said Lazar had been arrested for past offenses related to drugs and robbery and they are “checking if Lazar has a pending warrant of arrest against him.”

Nicolas said Magdaraub found out about the loss of his Honda motorcycle (TK-5662), which was parked in front of his house, on the morning April 29.  At that point, he still had no idea that Lazar had stolen it.

The next day, he received a text message from Lazar demanding P10,000 in return for the motorcycle. Lazar told him to bring the cash and meet up with him in Barangay Culiat Friday night.

Magdaraub “then went to us to set up the entrapment,” Nicolas said, adding that he suspects Lazar did not intend to return the motorcycle.
