23 women rescued from QC bar

-

The Quezon City Police District recently rescued 23 women from white slavery after receiving a report from a girl who was forced to work as a bar entertainer.

The women, some of them minors, were rescued last Tuesday by operatives of the QCPD-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, led by Chief Inspector Cherry Lou Donato, from the Encounter Bar located at the Welcome Rotonda.

In a statement, QCPD director Senior Superintendent Magtanggol Gatdula said a certain “Elvie” recruited the girl from Toledo, Cebu City to work as a house helper in Quezon City late last month.

Elvie promised the victim a monthly salary of P10,000. The girl became suspicious when she was confined to a rented apartment upon arriving in Quezon City.

Elvie then brought the girl to the bar, where she was forced to work as an entertainer. But on March 31, the victim was able to sneak out of the apartment and call up her mother in Cebu.

The mother contacted a relative in Batangas, who came over to Quezon City to report the incident to Councilor Jaime Borres.

Gatdula said they have launched a manhunt for the recruiter.     – Reinir Padua
