Jealous ex-OFW shoots wife, kills self

-

A former overseas Filipino worker (OFW) shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself during a heated argument in their Marikina City home Sunday.

Marikina City police chief Superintendent Sotero Ramos Jr. said jealousy drove Joey Cacanando, 32, to shoot himself in the head. He was declared dead on arrival at the St. Vincent hospital.

Cacanando’s wife, Evangeline, an employee of the Office of the Public Safety and Security (OPSS) of the Marikina City Hall, was shot in the left side of the head. She is in critical condition in the same hospital.

In her hospital bed, Evangeline said her husband, with whom she has three children, had long been suspecting her of having an affair with another man despite her denials.

Ramos said Cacanando worked as a member of ABS-CBN programs’ crowd control staff.

At about 1 p.m. Sunday, “the wife was changing clothes to report for work when the husband confronted her and a heated argument ensued,” Ramos said. The couple’s children were not around at the time.

At the height of the confrontation, Cacanando reportedly pulled out a caliber .22 revolver and shot Evangeline. When his wife, fell to the floor bleeding, Cacanando raised the gun to his head and pulled the trigger.

Responding neighbors rushed the husband and wife to the nearest hospital but Cacanando failed to make it.

Ramos dispatched elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) to the site to gather evidence. As of yesterday, Ramos ordered the SOCO operatives to subject Evangeline to a paraffin test to determine whether she fired a gun recently.

However, doctors said Evangeline must be subjected to a CT scan to determine if she is well enough to undergo paraffin tests.

Ramos vowed to dig deeper into the case.  Non Alquitran
