2 killed, 9 hurt in Metro traffic mishaps

-

Two people were killed and nine others were wounded in two separate traffic accidents in Metro Manila yesterday morning.

Jenny dela Cruz was killed while her husband, Levy, was seriously injured when he lost control of the newly bought Yamaha motorcycle they were riding. They were thrown from the motorcycle as it rammed the center island of the C-5 flyover in Barangay Bagong Ilog, Pasig City at around 9 a.m.

They landed headfirst while the motorcycle hit a car, according to police.

In Taguig City, a 19-year-old construction worker was killed, his two companions seriously injured and six others wounded when a speeding car collided with their service van yesterday morning along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

Meynard Baldo was declared dead on arrival at the South Super Highway Medical Center.

Baldo’s cousin, Dennis Baldo, 19; and Rommel Buenaflor, 22, were seriously wounded and are still under observation at the same hospital.

Six others, who were unidentified, sustained minor wounds.

A report from the Philippine National Construction Corp. (PNCC) Operations Center said that around 6:17 a.m., the victims were on board an L-300 van that suddenly had a flat tire while traversing the northbound lane of the SLEX.

While one of Baldo’s companions was fixing the flat tire, the victim stood at the rear of the vehicle. A speeding light brown Mitsubishi Lancer with license plate XKS-390 hit Baldo, collided with the van and injured the other passengers, the PNCC said.

Police identified the driver of the car as Mazami Lim Nakay, who was arrested by authorities. Appropriate charges are now being readied against him. – Non Alquitran, Rhodina Villanueva
