Re-electionist Mayors Canuto “Tito” Oreta of Malabon and Toby Tiangco of Navotas were proclaimed the victors in their respective constituencies yesterday morning.

Oreta, who ran unopposed, received 97,334 votes, which represented 95 percent of Malabon’s voting population. His running mate, re-electionist Vice Mayor Arnold Vicencio also won with 75,991 votes.

The elected District 1 councilors are Antolin Oreta III, Ricky Bernardo, Danilo Dumalaog, Oliver Ramos, Ian Borja and Leslie Yambao, while District 2 councilors are Eddie Nolasco, Dado Cunanan, Rogie Yanga, Rufing Bautista, Tato Espiritu and Boyong Mañalac.

Tiangco had to fight off former political ally Malabon-Navotas Rep. Federico Sandoval, winning a second term by some 20,000 votes over the congressman.

Malabon-Navotas congressional candidates Josephine “Jaye” Lacson-Noel and Alvin Sandoval, the congressman’s brother, are in a tight race.

The final count in Malabon showed Sandoval winning with 42,521 votes. The Commission on Elections has not yet released official figures on the congressional race in Navotas.   With Pete Laude
